Lab Textures

I've currently been texturing the laboratory, there was around 40 textures in total so I've picked a few to show what I was doing. I followed Chelseas concept and used the same brush as a basis for these textures.

Texture Robot

I went back to original concept art of the robot to have a better idea of reference of how the 3D robot could look like...what the take on this one?

Texturing Test

Testing out some textures and adding glow to the eyes and ring. I tried to capture the same texture as the environment but it looks like I still need to work on that...The name Mory came to mind when thinking of this character.

Older Robot Rig and Tests

Older Robot Model with the Rig.

Quick animation tests.

Group Project - Environment - 3D Realisation

This is a 3D Realisation of our environment, the textures have yet to be imported and so this is just the model.

This set includes lighting; there is a spotlight to focus on the middle of the scene (where the action will be taking place) and softer lights for the computer monitors.

Animating deadline: 1st December

I know that we won't be ready to begin animating today but I'm reminding you all of what needs to be done so that we can begin animating on Tuesday. It's absolutely crucial that you adhere to this deadline if you want enough time for rendering and editing, I've been pretty flexible around work so far but I'll be incredibly concerned about time if we're still doing these tasks after Tuesday. I know you're all working hard but think of this as something to keep you on track.
Before the morning on Tuesday the 1st December tasks to complete are:

  • Revised Script
  • Storyboard
  • Animatic
  • Soundboard
  • Both Robots complete (modeled, rigged, textured)
  • Environment complete (modeled, textured, lighting)
Just incase you're unaware of what you should be doing -

Chelsea: Storyboard, Texturing
Max: Animatic, Sound, Environment
Kayliegh: Art Of, Script. Older Robot
Ridge: Sound, Modern Robot

Keep Calm, we've almost made it! & if you need any help please don't hesitate to ask!

Revised Script

I swapped a task with Max and wrote up a revised script. I'd like opinions on this as I want to make sure everyone is happy with this, the sooner changes are made (if necessary), the better. I think possibly the middle could be a problem? I'm worried it may not fit in with Tonal Montage, but I'm mainly imagining this being edited to music.

Week by Week Timetable

Having less than 4 weeks less and a lot of work to do I've organised a timetable to help manage the groups time effectively! This is a rough guide of what should be being done each week but I've also listed below by what dates certain tasks should be done by.

To be completed by:

Tuesday 24th November

Script
Storyboard
Animatic
Core Sounds
Environment Concept

Friday 27th November

Both Robots complete
Environment complete
(Ready to animate)

Tasks for this week:

Chelsea: Environment Concept, Storyboard
Max: Script, Animatic, Block modelling for Environment
Kayliegh: Modelling, Rigging, etc Robot, Art Of Presentation, Sound

PreViz - Camera Angles

These are just a series of simple pictures based on our current storyboard/environment design. It features the "Cube" and "Sphere" robots from our story.

The lighting is meant to be focused on these two characters solely with the shadows spared for the rest of the laboratory. The two benches are also the main areas of the lighting.

The main camera poses are from a birds eye view, a front on view, a view over the shoulder of the cube and a camera on the side.

The point of this exercise is to determine which angle would be better for showing off the static movements of the robot.

Character in Maya

This is the first attempt at modelling my modern robot in maya, I actually forgot to name the character. I'm still trying to figure out what his personality and charm is going to be. What emotions are the evoked when you see this character? Any suggestions?

Older Robot Final Concept

Final concept

Here is my finished character concept for the Older Robot.

Environment Concept Idea

I have created a rough line work of how I think the laboratory could look like. Some areas may need revising but this is just a rough idea of what I had in mind.

Revised Older Robot Orthograph

New Orthograph for the new concept which I will be posting the finish piece soon!

Revised Older Robot concept progress

Though my design was okay, the group felt that it lacked a union with our animation. After speaking to Alan he suggested that my robot can also condense down into a simple shape, so rather than changing the design completely it's concept instead has changed. This is my progress so far with the lineart and base colours.

Environment - Laboratory Concepts

During our tutorial with Alan he suggested that we create a unified art style in order to better meld the designs and thoughts of our group, our group discussed what we believe our artwork has in common; thick black outlines and a cartoony style colour/texture.

With that in mind I took the references of laboratories and factories compiled by Kayleigh and then used the thumbnails done by both me and Chelsea to create more finalised and coloured concepts of our laboratory.

I wanted to try out different colours to try and give the laboratories a different gloomy scene.
